An Exciting opportunity to join a well-established global business in the Midlands Area. My client is currently looking for an Import/Export Controller to join their established team.


As an Import & Export Controller you will work on accurately executing forwarding for our global operational and supply chain activities across multiple sites including UK, Far East, US and Australia.

Do you have experience as a Import/Export Controller?

Salary £35k depending on experience, plus benefits.


Developing strategies and relationships with suppliers, customers, external advisors including trade bodies, consultants, 3PL providers to mitigate risk and find lowest cost delivery solutions whilst providing best service.

Achieve cost savings through a Total Cost approach whilst improving stakeholder experience.
Implement KPIs to measure internal and external performance to ensure continual process improvements.
Negotiate and organise transport movements with a vast contact base of sub-contractors. To include 'day to day' transactions and longer-term strategic contract negotiations.

Develop and use your knowledge of post Brexit customs, duty, and transport regulations for both importing and exporting to/from EU and non-EU countries.

Ensuring correct and contract compliant incoterms are in use.
Ensuring product declarations of conformity from suppliers are obtained and are compliant with customs regulations.
Timely complete and respond to all customer queries surrounding transport solutions.
Liaising effectively with both sender and receiver
Providing an excellent customer service experience
Processing relevant Import documentation
Customs clearance and entry within customs system if applicable
Updating and maintaining records with speed and accuracy
Assisting timely resolution of any goods movement queries.
Monitor and ensure integrity of all relevant data.


Specific Skills:


  • You will ideally have 3+ years in a similar role.
  • Shown aptitude and ability despite rapidly changing priorities and some ambiguity.
  • Should be able to demonstrate process improvements whilst actively and significantly making cost reductions.
  • Experience in dealing with a network of providers and service methods.
  • Knowledge of shipping documentation, incoterms, tariff codes.
  • Strong desire to provide only the highest levels of customer service, Proven experience in a similar importexport role and/or a formal qualification that includes import and export logistics as well as customs requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Diligence, attention to detail, and reliability are essential
  • Experience of data analysis and good Excel capability
  • Keen eye for data integrity and having analytical ability
  • The ability to forge strong links, build relationships and communicate at all levels.
