Contract Type:
Permanent

Location:
Darley Fields base and working across all parks and green spaces across the city

We currently have a vacancy for a Community Park Ranger. We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person to join our team working across the city.

You will be working in Derby's beautiful parks and green spaces which are visited by over a million people each year and provide a vital role in delivering health and wellbeing outcomes and enhancing people's quality of life.

As part of the Parks Team, you will be involved in the management of a wide range of sites including around 400 green spaces which include six Green Flag Parks, Local Nature Reserves, Children's Playgrounds, Park Buildings, and extensive Playing Fields, which support an extensive programme of grassroots outdoor sport.

We work with a wide range of partners, including over 25 Parks Friends Groups and the Derby Park Volunteers who undertake nature conservation work on parks two days a week.

We are seeking a hard-working team player who can work independently using their own initiative across a wide range of different parks sites and nature reserves and make a difference for people and nature.

What skills and experience do you need?

  • Proven skills and experience working with community groups and volunteers, preferably in a parks management, countryside, or nature conservation setting.
  • Ability to undertake a wide range of inspection and maintenance tasks, including inspections of children's play areas, management of water play facilities and operational management and upkeep of park buildings
  • Experience of leading on the organisation and delivery of events and activities
  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety
  • Be confident using Information Technology (IT)
  • Have an awareness of and interest in environmental issues affecting parks and green spaces
  • Skills and experience in landscape and habitat management.

You will need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be approachable, friendly and self-motivated with a commitment to delivering a high-quality service.

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in working in parks who can work both on their own and as part of a "can do" team.

You must also have a flexible approach to working, be willing to carry out cleaning duties and have a full clean driving license to be able to drive Council vehicles to parks across the city.
