An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our highly successful Parks Team. We are looking to recruit a Community Parks Officer with experience and skills from the Greenspace sector

who is passionate about parks and would enjoy working in partnership with a wide range of people to develop and improve Derby's parks and greenspaces.

You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of parks, with specific responsibility for certain parks within a defined area of the city, including Markeaton Park, a regional visitor attraction offering a wide range of activities and events.

The workload is a diverse one with a very wide range of issues and you will need the ability to adapt and respond to changing priorities daily.


You will play a key role, working with a wide range of partners in protecting and enhancing the city's parks and green spaces, including improving biodiversity and contributing positively to the proposals outlined in the city's Climate Change Action Plan.


Our enthusiastic and committed Green Flag Award winning team have an exciting programme of projects and improvements in progress including the Rewilding of Allestree Park and an extensive tree planting programme.

With over 26 Park Friends Groups and a team of park volunteers, we work closely with local communities who deliver a high number of volunteer hours enhancing and improving parks.

We are therefore looking for someone who can work effectively with a wide range of people, reach out to our harder to reach customers, manage projects, organise, and run events and coordinate the day-to-day management of all the parks within an area of the city.

You will need to be a highly motivated person, able to work as part of a team whilst using your own initiative to manage a diverse and challenging workload.

The role requires a flexible approach with regular evening and weekend working to attend meetings with a wide range of partners and facilitate community events and activities.


You will be part of a small, friendly, and enthusiastic Parks and Active Living team and be required to work both independently, with the team and in partnership with other Council departments, voluntary sector organisations and the public to manage and develop parks and greenspaces.

This is a permanent full
- time position but part-time working or job share may also be considered.
