You will be supported by a fellow Fostering Reviewing Officer in the team to coordinate your work and to support each other's learning and the growth of the service.


We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements although this job will involve travel, some of this will be out of county to visit foster carers who are not in Dorset.


What you can expect to be doing:

We are looking for part-time Fostering Reviewing Officer to contribute to the provision of a high-quality fostering service for children by ensuring that every foster carers suitability to foster and terms of approval are reviewed at least annually as required by the Fostering Regulations.


The role will include:

  • Chair foster carer reviews at least annually as required by the fostering regulations, following an agenda agreed by the Fostering Service Manager.
  • To rigorously assess foster carer's capability to meet the needs of children in foster care, incorporating their wishes and feelings as well as feedback from other professionals.
  • Develop positive relationships with social workers, foster carers, children and other professionals.
  • Provide analytical reports identifying examples of good practice and areas for improvement, themes and trends, feedback on children's views and suggestions for development, changes to practice, the services, and policies or procedures.
  • Complete Audits as part of the review process.

About you:

You will be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England.

You will have experience working within the field of fostering and good knowledge of fostering processes.

You will be a confident communicator, able to challenge to ensure children are at the centre of your work.

You will be able to work independently and as part of a team.

You will be confident at writing reports.

You will be able to share the findings of your audit activity with governance boards.


You will be able to identify areas of improvement for the service and help put into action plans to make changes.


You will be expected to travel around the county and there will be some requirement to complete reviews outside of the county to foster carers who live in other areas of the UK.


Additional Information:

This post requires significant travel. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.


You must:
- have a degree in social work/Occupational Therapy or equivalent
- be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post
