Strainstall UK Ltd is part of the BES Group an independent provider of reliability and Condition Based Maintenance and Monitoring solutions, products, consultancy and training courses and are looking for a Technical Writer to join the team.

What will I be doing?


As Strainstall's Technical Writer you will provide the external and internal sales teams with technical support, liaising with the engineering, production and procurement departments to be able to establish a costed technical solution with lead times.

You will produce thorough job costings, quotations and detailed proposals in support of the sales function and to follow up ongoing enquiries to successful order.

Your expertise will be required throughout opportunity capture, bid preparation, post bid submission negotiation and eventual handover to operations to execute in accordance with internal policies, processes and procedures.


  • Assist the Business Development team during the early engagement with the customer to shape their requirement and assist during customer meetings as required.
  • Help develop opportunities through strong customer relationships and communication with multiple stakeholders.
  • Management of bids through receipt of enquiry to submission and contract award.
  • Work with the production/engineering and procurement departments to establish a solution that is fully costed with a lead time.
  • Liaising with Legal and Commercial departments to develop solution in line with Group Principles.
  • Generate detailed quotations, commercial and technical proposals against defined deadlines for internal approval, ensuring bid strategy and winning themes are delivered as part of bid input
  • Oversee the review of Customer documentation and, producing clarifications and qualifications as necessary.
  • Participate in face to face clarification, presentation and negotiation meetings with Customers as required.
  • Liaise with the customer to understand their requirements where necessary.

What experience do I need?

  • Graduate calibre or qualified by experience
  • Engineering experience (desirable)
  • Project Management Experience (desirable)


  • IT Literate

  • Word, Excel, Sage, CRM


  • Technical/ engineering understanding

  • Knowledge of load monitoring equipment or a background in an engineering / technical company would be a distinct advantage.
