You probably live in a village north of Cambridge, close to Cottenham (AKA "The Sticks") so you'll appreciate the local bus service isn't to be relied upon.

And a car will be needed for work, or you'll need to live in the village to make sure you make work on time.

You're leaving school this year, or maybe last year, with good maths and English grades and want to begin a rewarding career.

One where you can show off your good numeracy and problem-solving skills and prove that you are responsible, reliable and hard-working.

How about accountancy?

A job where you'll be working and earning money, whilst learning on the job and through study, towards an AAT qualification?

That's the Association of Accounting Technicians qualification, which will take three years and, with your daily practical experience, springboard you towards a further period of study and practical work and becoming a qualified accountant.

A local firm is creating an apprenticeship place, offering full-time work with a good salary and benefits plus time off and funding for a college place one day a week.

Not all companies offer this time out for you to study whilst working.

This is a smaller, friendly accountancy firm run by people who are a bit chilled, to be honest.

And they want to bring in another trainee this year who can be supported and mentored to become a capable, qualified team member with a glowing accountancy career ahead of them.

You'll learn bookkeeping before going on to compile personal and corporation tax returns and understand the principles of capital gains tax and inheritance tax.

This is office-based since you'll need training, but they can be a bit flexible about the hours (typically the team work from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday).

Your employer will pay for your membership subscriptions and study support and you'll get private healthcare and a well-being program.
