Job summary:


Working with the NCA's National Investigative Capabilities (NIC) Major Crime Investigative Support (MCIS) Operational Support Unit (OSU) providing business support functions to the Serious Crime Analysis Section (SCAS), MCIS and UK Missing Persons Unit (UKMPU).

You will be working with a team of experienced and highly motivated business support officers who will be able to share their wealth of knowledge and experience.


This role is unique in that 50% of the working time will be dedicated to the SCAS Intelligence Administration Team and the other 50% to the NIC OSU.


Job description:

NIC is a unique department with a number of teams providing niche capabilities within the NCA.

The business support element of this role requires you to provide support to all of the teams within the department, comprising approximately 130 National Crime Agency (NCA) officers split across nine specialist teams.

These officers are based across multiple NCA sites and a number being home based.


The operational MCIS team provide support against agreed criteria to front line policing throughout the UK on the investigation of major crime specialising in murder, rape, abduction and serious sexual offences.

As such, the highest demand on the NIC OSU will be from this team, who will require quick time responses to their requests for support.

The other element to this role is support to the CST and SCAS with ABE and case submissions.

SCAS holds the national remit to support serious stranger sexual offence and murder investigations in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

According to a Code of Practice, UK forces are required to submit case information for offences meeting SCAS collection criteria within 20 working days of the offence being reported to the Police.

Once cases are received, SCAS provides analytical assistance, to conduct comparative case analysis (CCA).

The aim is to identify serial offending and persons of interest in support of investigations into some of the most serious sexual crimes committed across the country.


NOTE:

You will be required to download, view and be exposed to graphic and distressing material / images relating to major crime investigation including, although not exhaustively, homicide, rape, sexual offences, series and serious offences, and other offences resulting in injuries.

These offences may be against children.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Providing administrative support, logistics coordination and corporate service functions to the NIC teams, contributing towards operational delivery in particular.
  • Assisting with preparation of documents, coordinating departmental correspondence, arranging meetings, diary management, minute taking, travel bookings and vehicle management.
  • Taking receipt of, cataloguing and indexing investigative material received from Forces.
  • Supporting the Case Submissions Team (CST) and SCAS with ABE and case submissions.
  • Providing administrative support, logistics coordination and corporate service functions to the NIC teams, contributing towards operational delivery in particular.
