Are you looking for a new challenge and interested in sexual health, then look no further as Sexual Health Hertfordshire have a vacancy for a band 6 Health advisor to cover for Maternity Leave.

This post will initially be for 6 months but has the potential to become permanent.


Sexual Health Hertfordshire provides and delivers level 3 integrated sexual health and contraception services across Hertfordshire, based within three main hubs and two spoke clinics.


The role of the Health Adviser within the clinic is to provide advice, information, education, treatment, and counselling to patients diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, HIV, syphilis and hepatitis.

Health Advisers participate in the management of the results of tests undertaken within the service and carry out partner notification, ensuring the attendance and treatment of contacts.

The role also includes safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

Health Advisers also play a key role in HIV post test discussion and the care of people with HIV within the service.


The applicant will be based within the Sexual Health Advising team at Stevenage/Hatfield, although will be required to closely work alongside the other teams in the county and must be prepared to travel to these clinics when required.

To see clients in a sexual health setting for time limited 1:1 work specifically around risk reduction and behaviour change related to their sexual health.

To provide evidence-based advice, information, education, and counselling to patients diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B & C

To provide pre-test HIV discussion and post-test discussion and/ or counselling

To carry out partner notification to ensure the attendance and treatment of contacts.

To provide ongoing support and counselling for those with associated concerns e.g. sexual assault, termination of pregnancy, sexual identity, relationship and psychosexual issues, domestic violence etc.
