Join the successful IWork Health and Social Care Employer engagement team.


The 2014 Islington Employment Commission set out a vision for making it easier for local employers to recruit better, and get more involved locally.


Building on this, the Inclusive Economy and Jobs directorate at Islington council have worked with partners in the Integrated Care Sector, to develop the Islington Health and Social Care academy.

The academy is attended by Hospital Trusts, Clinical Commissioning Group, Primary Care, Training Hubs, local training and educational institutions, social care commissioners and the voluntary sector.


This role will lead on further developing the academy and identifying sector-specific initiatives -linked to key growth areas and workforce shortages.

The post will be expected to continue our partnership with local NHS health and social care employers but will be expected to extend the work to the wider sector privately owned SMEs in pharmacy, dentistry and optometry, to support and promote increased sector employer engagement in Islington


Establish, grow facilitate outcome-driven, effective partnerships with key employers and training providers to develop innovative pathways into employment, and ensure there is a skills pipeline to support Islington residents into sectoral jobs, including supply chains apprenticeships, training, and work experience.

The role will enable service development to be consistently linked with local growth areas and developments to improve the outcomes for Islington residents and to proactively grow networks of committed and engaged local employers.

The postholder will be expected to maintain a knowledge and evidence base for decision-making and project planning through labour market intelligence provided by HEE, CLF and others

This job will be based in Islington's Community Wealth Building Directorate, within the Inclusive Economy and Jobs iWork service.

You will be supported by a team of enthusiastic and friendly employment officers, who will engage local residents and prepare them for jobs, or who work with other key sectors and will be there to share best practise and support you in your endeavours.

Since then, we have developed a strong relationship with our local Health and Social Care sector, which has become a strong partnership known as the Islington Health and Social Care academy


This role will lead on further developing the academy and identifying sector-specific initiatives -linked to key sector growth areas, initially focusing on NHS health and social care employers and extending to the wider sector SMEs in pharmacy, dentistry and optometry, to support and promote increased sector employer engagement in Islington.

Demonstrate flexibility and openness to change, taking a dynamic and proactive attitude to working with local employers.


Responsibilities:


  • Lead on the establishment and development of strong working relationships and clear partnerships with key contractors and employers to identify and generate pathways to employment and oversee the brokerage of appropriate flexible and accessible opportunities for local unemployed residents. This engagement will be on both a strategic and operational level, liaising with senior executives and operational leads.
  • Support the implementation of social value across council contracts, through active engagement in the procurement process. Where possible, identifying opportunities to address the priorities of the Community Wealth Building Directorate and inclusive economy and jobs service e. inserting clauses about encouraging employment, developing employability in addition to targets for local employment and apprenticeships.
  • Act as an expert on agreed sectors and enable service managers to understand and maximise the potential to open up opportunities for Islington residents, and pathways for Islington young people, and work with services to ensure that this is delivered.
