    Band 7 Midwife - Labour Ward Coordinator

    In this role you will be expected to demonstrate strong clinical and leadership skills. You will work closely with the Inpatient Matron and the existing Band 7 midwives, to ensure that the Maternity Unit is operationally safe, effective and well led. You will have an exceptional clinical knowledge base and a passion for promoting normality, even in a high risk environment.

    You will take charge of coordinating the labour ward and take responsibility for effective patient flow around the maternity unit. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver the very best care for the women booked with us.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder is responsible to the Lead Midwife, and will support the professional direction and leadership of midwifery staff within the Maternity Unit and Community.

    A prime responsibility of the post holder will be to maintain a safe clinical environment for women and their families whilst supporting their birthing options. You will also act in a manner that upholds the Trust values and supports the Maternity 5 year strategy by supporting service improvement initiatives.

    The post holder will be professional, kind and supportive, they will be a role model for junior midwives and student midwives. They will conduct audit, datix investigations and quality improvement to ensure that we are maintaining the highest of standards

    Essential criteria

  • Current registration with NMC
  • Relevant degree or equivalent
  • Evidence of professional and development
  • Mentorship /SSSA qualification
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Experience in a clinical leadership/team leader role.
  • Experience in caring for women in high risk category and those requiring high dependency care
  • Recent teaching experience.
  • Skills

    Desirable criteria

  • Excellent communication and IT skills
