An opportunity has arisen for a 30 hours per week position Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join the Adult Stoma Care Nursing Team, to deliver a high quality, effective and forward-thinking stoma care service, based at Royal Preston Hospital.


As an adult Stoma Care Health care assistant, you will be responsible for providing specialist nursing interventions to achieve and maintain a high standard of care within the hospital setting.

You will deliver and evaluate planned specialist nursing care alongside the Stoma Care Nurse Specialists.


You will need to be flexible in the workplace and able to travel across 2 sites - Preston and Chorley.

Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills are required to maintain and develop relationships within the multi-disciplinary teams.

The service currently runs 5 days per week Mon

  • Fri 8am to 4pm. However, the service is expanding and you may be required to cover weekends and bank holidays in the future, to suit the needs of the service. It may be necessary to travel between both sites ( Preston and Chorley)
As a health care assistant within the stoma care service you will need:

To perform a number of designated tasks which will involve direct care, in support of and under the supervision of the Stoma Care Nurse Specialist.

To work as an effective member of the Multidisiplinary Team.


To attend and follow appropriate training and assessment, undertake clinical and non-clinical duties independently with the support of the Stoma Care Nurse Specialist.


To take responsibility of a caseload of patients as directed by the Stoma Care Nurse Specialist, within the hospital setting.

The team will provide to the post holder, a high level of mentoring and support on an ongoing basis as well as the opportunity to attend specialist training and courses related to stoma care.


Duties to include but not be limited to:

  • Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.
  • Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement of competencies.
  • Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
  • Contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager.
