AboutUK Debt Structuring
The team is responsible for the origination and structuring of loan facilities for the Corporate Bank's largest corporate borrowers.

It undertakes First Line of Defence risk analysis, coordinates with CIB product partners, and leads the client dialogue acrossregular marketing and transaction-specific conversations.

In respect of Corporate Banking clients, UK Structuring covers all multibank and syndicated loan facilities, all lending to Financial Sponsor backed clients and large or complex corporate loan facilities in excess of £25m.

Lending transactions typically exceed£25m, rising to in excess of £1bn in some cases.

Transaction types both bilateral and multibank loans and range from event driven loans (sponsor transactions, acquisitions, de-mergers, IPOs, money out) to corporate core financings/refinancings).


Overall purpose of role:


  • Contribute to UK Debt Structuring target income, and capital return objectives
  • Ability to have client discussions on a broad spectrum of debt products and structures, including within the Investment Bank, thus providing referrals to the relevant product desks when appropriate
  • Work hand in hand with the execution teams and help develop the AVP pool across pitch content and execution
  • To be accountable for the origination and execution of Debt transactions (noting that much of the execution work will take place in other teams)
  • Support crossselling of the bank's wider capabilities and help entrench strong and positive client relationships
  • Drive content, thought leadership and high quality pitch materials in order to lead negotiations with clients and convert high quality business across complex M&A, leveraged finance and investment grade businesses
  • Support efficient collaboration with relevant other internal teams: Credit Analysis, TM, Syndicate, Product Management, Coverage, Risk, Portfolio
  • Act as the reference point for Debt transactions in the region for Coverage colleagues.
  • Act as an ambassador for Barclays in the external KBI / advisory market
  • Actively manage the capital of the bank, seeking to maximise returns for the risk and capital
  • Maintain strong, collaborative engagement with Risk, providing appropriate challenge where necessary
  • Performance manage more junior members of the team (Assistant Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents) where applicable

Key Accountabilities:


  • Sales and Service (90%)
  • Support the proactive origination of deal opportunities from our internal & external client base
  • Support client relationships and lead regular financing pitches with clients
  • Use selling skills to ensure Barclays wins the mandates and roles it desires
  • Lead & transact across the deal spectrum
  • Take responsibility for maintaining the risk/reward balance of deals written and achieve appropriate returns on capital deployed, in accordance with the bank's strategy
  • Develop a high marketfacing profile to generate new debt and associated business to Barclays
  • Support colleagues across the team around execution when workloads/complexity require
  • Business & Team Management (10%)
  • Performance manage direct reports and ensure self and others are sufficiently well skilled to be best of breed in market;
  • Identify opportunities for debt income growth and formulate strategies to deliver
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and embedding of tactical and strategic business change initiatives on an ongoing basis
  • Be aware of competitive threats/opportunities within the corporate market

Risk and Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards


Qualifications:


  • Appropriate CISI qualifications or equivalent to demonstrate basic knowledge of the Regulatory environment and Corporate Finance; degree or further professional qualification preferred

This role is deemed as a Certified client dealing role under the PRA & UK Financial Conduct Authority - Individual Accountabilities Regulations and may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or the minimum qualifications to meetinternal company benchmarks.
