Job Summary

What is the opportunity?


The Associate Director forms part of the Balance Sheet Liquidity Risk team in London that provides second line oversight of RBC's liquidity and interest rate risk in Europe in line with the responsibilities set out in RBC's enterprise policies.

The Associate Director will work very closely with Corporate Treasury London to review and challenge processes and parameter proposals.

This requires partnering with them to understand the impact of new and changed regulations and to communicate any issues clearly to GRM management.


This mandate requires excellent collaboration with the wider GRM Balance Sheet Liquidity Risk team for a global perspective and Corporate Treasury, Treasury Services, Finance, and other groups for a local perspective.


What will you do?

  • Responsible for providing independent regional oversight for liquidity and interest rate risk management; ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Independently reviews methodologies, models, parameters, and assumptions used for liquidity and interest rate risk measurement, including stress testing.
  • Understand CT's reporting process and leverage that knowledge to provide effective review and challenge to those processes and the Assumptions documents prior to recommending approval.
  • Be able to work within the local and enterprise governance structure and drive changes to gain efficiencies.
  • Produce presentations and communications that accurately summarize GRM concerns and conditions of approvals; be able to present in various committees both on a local and global level.
  • Have a strong relationship with CT London.
  • Keep up to date on new regulations and be able to summarize and articulate any concerns and challenge decisions made by CT.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders to ensure an effective and collaborative work environment.
  • Maintain an organized and uptodate library of documents for BLSR Europe, including approved local frameworks, policies, assumptions, and regulatory guidance.
  • Diarize upcoming committees and package dates, regulatory discussions and submissions, policy refresh due dates, audit point action plan due dates, and all similar events, and prompt relevant contributors to deliver items to BSLR for review in a timely manner, or for BSLR to submit documents in a timely manner.
  • Assist Director, BSLR on key projects and deliverables.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Risk management experience obtained in a financial institution or other comparable environment, including some experience in an enterprise risk management
  • Strong academic background
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
  • Understanding of RBC's businesses in Europe
  • Understanding of liquidity and funding risk
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of financial models
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment
