Full Time - Fixed Term for 12 Months


Our team plays a vital role in reducing homelessness in our town, we do this through working with residents to ensure that they receive appropriate advice and support.


The aim of the team is to improve residents' situations and make a real difference to the people of Reading.

About the role
We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our friendly Debt Advice Team within Tenant Services


You'll help us by:

  • Provide general money advice, completing appointments and casework to prepare a financial statement.
  • Review income and outgoings to provide relevant advice and support.
  • Explore the clients debt options and give full advice for them to make an informed decision.


You'll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability.

About you
This role combines people skills with detail, it's important that you can wear both hats. You'll need to have developed soft skills and demonstrate empathy and resilience in equal measure.

The following experience is required for this role:

  • Experience in giving help and advice to the public in some form of advisory capacity in relation to complex regulations or legislation in Housing, or Benefits.
  • Ability to interpret legislation to provide accurate advice in order that service users can make informed decisions and the ability to follow procedures and best practice.
  • Able to initiative, using own judgement to research and solve problems.
  • Selfmotivation and initiative and the ability to motivate service users to resolve issues.
  • Ability to manage own workload and to maintain a balanced workload, having regard for completing demands in a sometimes highly pressurised environment.
