  • We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the team at the National Coarse Fish Rearing Unit, Calverton, Nottinghamshire.

The role is varied in nature and includes tasks such as maintenance of buildings, operating machinery and equipment, water quality monitoring, fish husbandry and data collection and interpretation.

Incident response remains a top priority for the Environment Agency.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.


  • The team
  • You will join a supportive team of professionals who work closely with Fisheries teams across England and are responsible for supplying high quality coarse fish for the stocking needs of the Environment Agency

Reasons include:
Post pollution or habitat improvements.

  • Creation of new fisheries and angling opportunities.


The Unit produces between 350,000 and 500,000 fish across 9 species, which are stocked throughout England by the Agency as part of our statutory responsibilities.


  • Experience/skills required
  • We are seeking a flexible, wellorganised and selfmotivated individual able to work within the team setting.

Ideally, you will be qualified to at least National Diploma Level (or equivalent) in Fish or Animal Husbandry or a relevant discipline.

It would also be advantageous to have proven ability and experience in some of the following:


  • Operating and maintaining a range of animal culture systems.
  • A full UK driving licence as the role will involve driving a 4X4 Fish Transporter.
  • Operating machinery such as tractors, PTO equipment 4x4 vehicles etc.
  • Experience in the safe use of hand tools including powered types.
  • Construction skills such as pipe work, laying concrete and building in block and brick.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weathers often during unsociable hours.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a wellestablished team.

  • The post will be based at the National Coarse Fish Rearing Unit near Nottingham reporting to the Fish Farm Manager.

Due to the nature of the role, most of the work will be of a year-round outdoor nature requiring regular out of hours working.
