To ensure that all our students reach their potential and are not discriminated against we wish to appoint a Communication Support Worker to Deaf/Hearing Impaired students to join our established, experienced Sensory Impaired Team.


Duties & Responsibilities
Working within the Inclusion team, you will be working with a variety of students and be expected to meet the College's standards of work:

  • Communicating using British Sign Language.
  • Performing the role of a Learning Support Assistant during class.
  • Note Taking, acting as a scribe during exams and lessons.
  • Supporting the students out of class (assignment work etc) and during extracurricular activities, such as educational trips or work experience.
  • Working closely with the curriculum to encourage inclusive learning.
  • Working closely with the Sensory Impaired Specialist Lead to plan and deliver a highquality, professional service.
  • Building glossaries of technical language for the student.
  • Promoting equality and integration of Deaf and Hearing Impaired students.
  • Develop, review and implement strategies during the academic year, using individual learning profiles and other college systems.
  • Communicate appropriate information to other staff including managers and course tutors.
  • Undertake record keeping and other administrative tasks, ensuring the confidential nature of the work as required.
  • Provide Learning Support to nondeaf students and visually impaired students when needed.

Offers of Work

Essential Attainments

  • Level 2 or above qualification in British Sign Language or be a native level BSL user having come from a deaf family/community.
  • English and Mathematics or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent.

Desirable Attainments

  • UK driving licence free from major endorsements and the use of a vehicle or ability to travel between sites.
  • Level 3 in BSL or working towards the qualification.
