The Deputy Chief of Safety reports directly to Chief of Safety onwards to the 421st Air Base Squadron Director and is responsible for the RAF Menwith Hill Safety Program.

With multiple partner agencies working together upon 545 acres and at over 380 facilities on site, this position requires an organized teammate who can implement H&S protocols site wide.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week


Job description:


The 421st Air Base Squadron's Deputy Chief of Safety representative manages the day to day and strategic Safety Office actions and governance across the installation.

The position requires strong liaison across site and its various interactions, advice and support to a multitude of site agencies and contractors.

The position involves being duty holder for several specific areas of responsibility, as well as being a POC for general and technical safety issues, i.e.

PES -(Potential Explosive Sites), MOD 4C's, USR - (Unit Safety Rep) etc. assuring and managing the safety and wellbeing of anyone who attends site in any capacity.

The Deputy Chief of Safety needs to deliver a fast paced, quality service in the pursuit of protecting people and infrastructure, both on behalf of the UK crown estate and for the site clients, the US DoD, and make positive contributions to site objectives.

The role involves oversight of several safety programs, and high risk 'permit' programs such as confined spaces, being Chair and Secretary to various meetings including the tri-chair Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Council meeting.

The demands on this office for a quality service is high but very rewarding.


Keeping people safe and reducing site hazards to the lowest possible acceptable level enables people to come to work in a safe environment.

Specific past experience/skill


The post holder must be IT literate with good keyboard skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products.

The applicant should be a confident public speaker.
