Workshop Engineer / Heavy Plant Fitter

The company:
My client is a privately owned mineral and aggregates contractor, with over 5 decades of years' experience within both new and used plant equipment.
Within the Hire and Contracts division, equipment is supplied on a national basis, to provide all sectorsof industry including Quarrying, Steelworks, Power Stations and Earthworks.
Their used plant equipment sector involves plant sales and purchasing of all categories of machinery, including excavators, dump trucks, wheeled loaders, bulldozers and crushing units.
The Role:
Depending on experience the rate of pay is between £14.70 and £18.50 per hour for 39 hours a week. With an additional scheduled 7.5 hours at x1.5 standard pay. For someone on £18.50 per hour this equates to £48,000 pa.
Responsibilities:
- You will repair and maintain heavyduty quarrying equipment, including excavators, articulated haulers, wheel loaders, bulldozers such as Volvo, Caterpillar, Liehberr and Komatsu to a very high standard.
- You will carry out inspections and local preparation of machines, such as fitting buckets or attachments, reversing cameras, radars.
- You will have the ability to carry out major overhauls on engines, transmissions, axles, hydraulics; and be able to diagnose and problem solve.
- You will be able to work on own initiative and part of a team, deliver accurate completion of systems and paperwork and complete daily timesheets and job cards to provide detail of the works undertaken.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- You will have 5+ years' relevant experience (post apprenticeship) in the repair and maintenance of Heavy Construction Plant
- Bulldozers, Dumptrucks, Excavators, Graders, Loading Shovels etc.
- Have knowledge and experience in working with Tier 4 and 5 engines, regen and adblue systems.
- You will hold an NVQ or equivalent qualification in engineering, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics and electronics.
- You will also have experience in maintaining heavy quarry / mining / construction equipment, LDV's and 4x4's and knowledge of diagnostic equipment and procedures, including use of laptops for fault finding / diagnostics.
- You will be quick learner while having the willingness to attend internal and external training courses.
Shift:
- The standard working hours are Monday
- Friday 7am 5pm.
- There are often opportunities to work extra overtime on Saturdays and an hour before and after the standard shift at x1.5.
