Collections Assistant

Pay rate:
CIRCA £24,000 per annum


Contract:
Full-time, Fixed Term Contract (12-Months)


Hours:
Between 8.00 am pm (37.5 hours per week)

  • Are you passionate about history and uncovering the past of the Black Country? Are you ready to dive into the Black Country Museums' rich and diverse treasure trove of historical objects and play a key role in bringing the Museum to life? If so, then we may have the perfect role for you_


It's an exciting time to be part of our Collections team at the Black Country Living Museum as we expand into the 1940s, 50s, and 60s.

You will be responsible for the historical objects that bring the Museum to life, you'll ensure all objects are cared for and standards met.

What will you be doing?

  • Being the point of contact for all public inquiries.
  • Making recommendations to acquire objects and materials for the Museum's collection in line with the approved collecting policy.
  • Undertaking general administration.
  • Maintaining optimum standards in collections care and storage.
  • Contributing to the development of the Museum's collecting policy.
  • Researching and undertaking other support to benefit the development of collections, programs, visitor engagement, and projects.
  • Supporting the development and supervision of volunteer teams.
  • Assisting with identifying, sourcing, and researching potential new acquisitions to the collection.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Respectful, confident, and inclusive people skills.
  • An understanding of heritage and conservation issues, collections, and research.
  • Able to represent the Museum both internally and externally.
  • Capable of working efficiently independently and as part of a team.
