    Positions available:

    An opportunity has emerged for various General Practice Clinical Pharmacists within Ayrshire and Arran, primarily based in GP practices across East Ayrshire. There might be occasions where you will work in other areas within NHS Ayrshire & Arran as well.

    Working hours:

    37 hours per week on a permanent basis in East Ayrshire.

    In the future, based on AfC Terms and conditions, you might be required to work over 7 days and/or extended working hours.

    Your responsibilities:

    You will contribute to delivering safe, clinically effective, and financially prudent prescribing by:

    • Conducting clinical audits and medication reviews in GP practices on specific topics to enhance prescribing quality with a focus on cost-effective practices and supporting the Prescription for Excellence initiative.
    • Offering expert advice on prescribing and medication use across various therapeutic areas and clinical settings to GPs, nurses, other healthcare professionals, and non-clinical staff.
    • Providing guidance to patients and/or caregivers on medication-related concerns or minor ailment treatments, referring them to healthcare professionals when needed.
    • Establishing, executing, and evaluating processes to ensure the successful implementation of NHS Ayrshire & Arran's prescribing strategies and policies.
    • Expanding the role of General Practice Clinical Pharmacists, which may involve activities such as prescribing and de-prescribing in response to changes in patient conditions or conducting medicines reconciliation post-hospital discharge or outpatient clinic visits.

    Knowledge, training, and/or experience required:

    • Must hold a Masters in Pharmacy Degree or equivalent.
    • Be a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain and provide evidence of continuous professional development.
    • Completion of Vocational Training (Level 2) or equivalent experience.
    • Relevant experience in pharmacy.
    • Experience in primary care pharmacy.
    • Ability to work effectively within a team, in both pharmacy and multidisciplinary environments.
    • Demonstrate a highly specialized level of clinical pharmacy knowledge, skills, clinical reasoning, and judgment.
    • Advanced arithmetic skills are necessary.
    • Proficient in using computers and information technology.
    • Good understanding of relevant standards and guidelines.
