Murphy have an exciting opportunity to join our busy plant depot in Ollerton as an apprentice hire controller, to join our business in September 2023


The hire desk team manage the supply, distribution, repair and replacement of a wide variety of plant and equipment to our projects throughout the UK.

This is a busy role where no two days are the same.


Main duties

  • Providing technical information to the projects to help them select and use suitable equipment for the planned activities e.g. Health & Safety in operation, instructions for use, suitability for construction site and project, transportation requirements;
  • Ensuring equipment for hire is compliant with Health & Safety requirements e.g. PAT testing, inspections and operational testing, plant operator site cards;
  • Completing contract documentation at both onhire and offhire stages including all legal and health & safety documentation;
  • Processing payments including calculating hire & rental charges,damage charges.
  • Stock control
  • Handling technical enquiries and complaints.

Your Apprenticeship


The successful applicant will enrol on to the Level 2 Hire Controller apprenticeship standard, which takes up to 18 months to complete, combining 1 day per week in college and 4 days in the workplace.

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will gain a nationally recognised quailification that will help you to build a rewarding career in the industry.


Entry requirements
GCSE Grade A-D/9-3 or equivalent
