Family Support and Child Protection brings together the statutory elements of Children's Social Care provision, a wide range of Family Support, Youth Offending and Youth Services into one overall management arrangement.

The service provides clearly focused targeted interventions to take place within a context of integrated assessment and service provision.

The role of a Business Support Officer in the Assessment and Intervention Team and Children in Care and Care Leavers Teams is to provide effective administrative support to Social Workers, Team Managers and Service Managers and your duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Arranging and taking detailed meeting minutes
  • Data processing (input and retrieval) including servicebased IT systems.
  • Information and record management as directed.
  • Responding to nonroutine enquires/complaints, signposting as required.
  • General administrative duties as required.
  • Cash handling and processing of invoices
  • Investigating cash discrepancies
  • Handling post
  • Ordering household goods
  • Booking train / plane tickets and hotels
  • Ordering taxis
  • Ordering Passports
  • Ordering copies of legal documents such as birth certificates
  • Order Stationery
  • Taking calls from professionals and members of the public
  • Booking Meeting rooms
  • Arranging away day events


In addition to the above, the primary tasks you will carry out as a Business Support Officer in these Services, is organising and minuting complex, internal panels and multi-agency meetings, therefore it is essential that you will be able evidence an excellent level of literacy skills.


You will be familiar with computer packages such as, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Excel, and that you can demonstrate business and administration skills to NVQ 2 level or equivalent, and a level of numeracy skills to be able to deal with large amounts of petty cash.


Both Services are very busy, fast paced organisations with varying deadlines and challenges so you will have a good understanding of prioritisation and re-prioritisation of workloads.

You will be a team player and be the first to put your hand up when someone needs support.


You will not be alone in your responsibilities though; you will be joining a team of other Business Support Officers who are there to support you in developing your skills into becoming an amazing Business Support Officer.
