Job description

Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent

Leicester is covered by a wealth of soft and hard open spaces that includes a range of parks, gardens and nature areas.

We have over 150,000 individual trees and 107 hectares of woodlands, canals, and riversides.

In addition, we also have 150 play and outdoor gym facilities, sports facilities, highways, and housing green spaces totalling 1,250 hectares.

It is widely recognised that quality open spaces contribute to residents' quality of life and improve physical and mental health wellbeing, with parks in Leicester attracting around 9m visitors per annum.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Cleaner to join our team. Reporting to the Parks Manager, you'll be a valued member of the team working alongside our gardeners.

Our primary aim is to ensure safety within our parks and provide open space for both humans and wildlife to enjoy.

This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week. Hours of work are from Monday to Sunday (with 2 days off during the week) including Bank Holidays.

You'll be based at Evington Park depot and you'll be required to work across a range of sites within area 2.

You'll work around varying conditions including periods of exceptionally high footfall and seasonal issues.

You'll carry out litter picking, empty litter bins, remove any unpleasant substances and sharp objects such as, needles.

You'll ensure your work is completed in line with all legal requirements including COSHH regulations, and those relating to health and safety.

Maintaining basic security checks such as, locking and unlocking areas, you'll ensure the parks are kept safe.

In addition, you'll carry out manual handling of cleaning equipment, a range of tools and buckets of water in between work areas to ensure cleaning duties are completed efficiently.

Quite often as the first point of contact in the park, you'll provide a friendly, high quality customer service by assisting customers where you can.

What you'll need

You'll have experience of carrying out general cleaning duties in public duties or you'll have the ability to undertake relevant cleaning tasks.

You'll have basic literacy and numeracy skills sufficient for safe compliance with COSHH, to maintain cleaning records and complete incident forms.

With an awareness of your duties and responsibilities in relation to health and safety, you'll be able to use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely.

You'll be willing to work in unpleasant environments such as, public toilets and outdoors in winter months.

With the ability to be comfortable with working around the public including in actively used toilets, you'll be able to work on your own with mínimal supervision and use your initiative.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance.

You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working.
