    Job summary

    Applicants are invited for the above full time Senior Clinical Fellow post for at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

    This is a fixed term 12 month post with special interest in Diagnostic Oncology. The post holder will be expected to support our consultants in delivering comprehensive care to women who attend the department. The appointee will work closely with the existing Specialist Registrars and supporting Consultants to provide a full range of obstetric and gynaecological services appropriate to a District General Hospital. It is anticipated that the candidate will provide a high standard of general obstetrics and gynaecological care.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful candidate will play an important part in day to day management of antenatal and postnatal patients, and in the running of the labour ward. The post also includes a gynaecology clinic and day surgery. The department also currently provide services for Urogynaecology, subfertility and gynaecology oncology. The population served by this hospital is approximately 270,000.

    Job responsibilities

    See attached Job Description and Person Specification for full outline of responsibilities for the role of Minimal Access Surgery Clinical Fellow in O&G with special interest in Diagnostic Oncology.

  • Participation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology emergency care
  • Day today running of the emergency gynaecology, labour ward, obstetric wards, antenatal clinics
  • Gynaecology theatre sessions
  • Specialist gynaecological clinics: Diagnostic Oncology
  • To participate in the departments teaching, audit, and educational activities
  • Daily ward rounds
  • Inpatient and outpatient management of patients
  • Labour ward sessions including on call,1:8 full shift rota, Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Person Specification

    Educations/Qualifications

    Essential

  • Medical Degree
  • MRCOG Part 1 or recognised equivalent
  • Desirable

  • MRCOG Part 3 or recognised equivalent
  • Additional relevant clinical experience
  • Registration

    Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Clinical Experience

    Essential

  • Excellent all round experience of DGH work
  • Able to deal with emergency admissions on-call
  • Completed a minimum of 1 year Specialty Registrar or equivalent training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK is essential
  • Ability to work independently, but aware of own limitations and know when to seek advice from senior colleagues
  • Logbook indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures
  • Desirable

  • Suitable experience to allow or past experience of second on-call
  • Previous experience of working in an O&G post within the UK
