Description

The post holder should have a wide experience in assisted conception procedures and management of couples of varying complexity undergoing IVF treatment.

The postholder is expected to be aware of the regulatory requirements of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) as well NHS funding criteria and processes and the role of the integrated care boards in the sector.


The postholder will be expected to work collaboratively with the other consultants within Homerton Fertility Centre and with other disciplines involved in the management of patients undergoing assisted conception treatment.

The successful applicant will be involved in the training of junior doctors and or nursing staff in carrying out pelvic ultrasound scans in the Centre

The post is full-time 10 programmed activities (PAs), located in fertility.

This includes a planned session on the weekend currently 1:5 ( possible bank holiday working) to carry out fertility procedures & other patient related work.

There is no on call commitment and the frequency of the planned session will fluctuate in line with senior staffing levels and the needs of the service


Working with the Senior Management Team and contributing to the Service's development plans, as well contributing to the overall key performance indicators for activity and patient experience.

The post holder will work closely with the person responsible, the senior clinical team and the wider team within fertility to develop the department with robust clinical governance and regulatory protocols in place.

The post holder is expected to understand the changing policies and NHS structures in the Northeast London and North Central London and lead on the RTT 18 weeks pathway.

The post holder is expected to work closely with the clinical lead to have a positive impact on the appointment and treatment waiting times


You are expected to be well versed in systems such as IDEAS, E consent, EPR and working within a quality system, such as the Q pulse system.

The post holder as part of the MDT and regularly update and enhance the information on the website and various social media platforms.

participating and leading the fertility webinars as part of the Medical / Clinical team.

The local population and areas served by Homerton are categorised by a striking diversity of needs.

Hackney is one of the most urban and cosmopolitan areas in the country with high levels of poverty and deprivation.

There are substantial immigrant and migrant populations. Many languages are spoken, and ethnic minority communities constitute over 50% of the population. Hackney's population at around 250,000 is young, mobile and expanding, and the birth rate is rising

Homerton Fertility Unit caters for the 9 surrounding Clinical commissioning groups. It accepts approximately 2000 new patient referrals/ year and does close to 100 IVF cycles/ year.

The centre provides comprehensive fertility services to the neighbouring population and works closely with gynaecology, obstetrics and endometriosis centre in the hospital.

The centre also has very good relationship with the primary and secondary care partners.


We carry out a comprehensive service of assisted reproductive therapies, including IVF, ICSI, embryo cryopreservation, oocyte freezing, and testicular sperm retrieval, with a activity level of around 600 IVF/ICSI cycles and 400 cycles of frozen embryo replacement cycles per annum.


At least 8 PA will consist of direct clinical care -comprising of fertility OP consultations, scan clinics and fertility procedures, such as Hycosy and egg collection lists and embryo transfer lists etc and 2.0 SPAs, to be carried out on site.


1 SPA will contribute towards core training and professional activities and 1 SPA will be allocated to maintaining and improving the quality of service through managing patient complaints, development programmes and processes for adhering to Trust and HFEA regulations.


The post holder is expected to be trained in all aspects of assisted reproduction with level 3 skills in laparoscopic surgery They are expected to run independent clinics, scanning sessions, egg collection procedure, HSG, Hycosy, all aspects of the fertility related operative procedures.

The post holder should be well versed to undertake male fertility associated consultations. The post holder will also lead the donor conception pathway and be responsible for the gender reassignment patients
