Job summary
Applications are invited for an experienced consultant in congenital cardiothoracic surgery to join the department of congenital cardiothoracic surgery at the Alder Hey children's hospital NHS foundation trust within the division of surgery. The consultant will be expected to work at Alder Hey children's hospital, delivering paediatric congenital cardiac surgery, ECMO and pectus surgery along with working at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, delivering adult congenital cardiac surgery. This is a full-time post to replace a retired colleague. The successful applicant will be expected to have expertise and independent operative experience in all aspects of congenital cardiac surgery, pectus surgery and ECMO.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within the department of cardiac surgery at Alder Hey children's hospital and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital delivering all age congenital cardiac surgery. The post holder will also deliver cardiac & respiratory ECMO and pectus and chest wall surgery at the Alder Hey children's hospital. The new consultant will be fully supported by the three senior substantive consultants in the department.

Alder Hey children's hospital is one of the largest children's hospitals in the Europe and the one of the only few stand-alone children's hospital trusts in the UK. The cardiac department is one of the largest centres in the UK delivering over 450 surgeries per year with wide variety of congenital cardiac cases. The Alder Hey ECMO service is one of the only few designated respiratory ECMO centres in the UK. Alder Hey is one of the three nationally designated centres for pectus surgery in England and the only paediatric centre.
