PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
We are looking for a highly motivated support scientist to provide services for Laboratories based in Oxford Science Park.
You will be instrumental to Organisational success by ensuring the smooth running of our laboratories, and act as a key contact between the Research Scientists and the wider Operations team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- 1. Continual monitoring and replenishment of consumables across the site.(10%)
- Management of a consumables store room and the associated inventory management software (Netsuite) (5%)
- Processing of orders for laboratory consumables. (10%)
- Processing deliveries in a timely and efficient manner.(20%)
- Basic maintenance of equipment (e.g. deep cleaning, checking integrity) (10%)
- Collecting equipment maintenance records. (5%)
- General housekeeping on a daily basis. This will include tasks such as the operation of an industrial scale autoclave. (30%)
- Preparation of laboratory growth media and stock solutions (10%)
- This role is not restricted to the above and encompasses any support activities that facilitate the smooth running of the laboratory-based operations. As the company grows, your role could vary as required to support further operational and support functions
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Required
- Education to BSc in a technical discipline, or equivalent practical expertise gained from hands on experience in a glasshouse or laboratory environment.
- Experience reading and writing H&S related documentation such as risk assessments, standard operating procedures and COSHH assessments.
- Experience managing the storeroom/inventory for a research facility or team.
Desirable
- Experience with a commercial ERP system such as Netsuite
- Experience managing and reviewing H&S documentation and processes.
- Experience working as part of a customer facing team.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Required
- Ability to work autonomously and proactively.
- Must be highly organised with an ability to keep accurate records for both our inventory and H&S records.
- Strong communication skills both in person and remotely
- Ability to meet deadlines and demonstrate awareness of realistic time requirements for yourself.
- Demonstrate a 'hands on' approach to talking challenged faced in your role and the ability to identify when it is necessary to escalate a problem
