Job description:


  • Would you like to help deliver critical policies for addressing climate change? In 2019, the UK became the first major economy in the world to legislate to have "net zero" carbon emissions by 2050, meaning we will no longer be a net emitter of greenhouse gases which contribute to climate change.
  • Carbon Capture Usage and Storage (CCUS) is a part of this ambition. As a result, this is an exciting time to join the CCUS team as we look to deliver the commitments set out in the Prime Minister's 10 Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution and the government's Net Zero Strategy.
  • We will shortly enter a period of complex multidimensional negotiations that are likely to have far reaching impacts on the success of CCUS across the UK and have several roles available to join our growing negotiation or commercial integration team.
  • We need a passionate corporate finance specialists to be a key part of commercial integration and negotiation process acting as a corporate finance adviser across the team and during any negotiation process with projects; including undertaking financial analysis of relevant industry stakeholders, financial modelling and advising on key issues such as cost of capital and appropriate rates of return. These roles provide a fantastic opportunity to get full exposure to high profile projects in the carbon capture and storage sector.
  • We would love to hear from you if you are an accomplished corporate finance or commercial professional with leadership skills and a background in the public or private sector with experience in oil and gas (upstream/midstream), energy and/or major infrastructure projects especially in an economically regulated sector.

Person specification:


  • You will report to a Deputy Director and be responsible for providing high quality advice to the relevant policy teams and for the effective execution of specific workstreams

This may include:

  • Developing and implementing commercial strategies working collaboratively with the other project leads and workstreams, BEIS policy teams, UK Government Investments, Ofgem and external advisers;
  • Liaising with senior stakeholders, including Ministers and external stakeholders or investors;
  • Providing qualitative advice and analysis on commercial issues, contingent liabilities or key stakeholder companies;
  • Advising on and undertaking due diligence on businesses or projects under development and advise on strategies to manage risk;
  • Advising on and participating in the negotiations with counterparties and of key transaction documents;
  • Leading on the commercial and financial aspects of internal decisionmaking documents;
  • Ensuring an effective, timely and coordinated approach for those commercial issues which impact across several negotiations and require alignment (or create an interdependency) across the Programme. This includes identifying, monitoring, and managing such issues as they arise during negotiations, and facilitating the necessary escalation/resolution within the governance framework.
