    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the new Sheffield Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SEOC) at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital as a Technical Instructor. This is an exciting time for the Orthopaedic therapy team, with a significant amount of new funding to create a state-of-the-art elective unit and staffing model.

    The successful applicants will work on a new purpose-built elective unit, on the top floor of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with fantastic views over the city. SEOC will be a specialist regional hub treating a diverse patient group across the South Yorkshire region and further afield.

    The successful applicant will work in the Inpatient Therapy Team consisting of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Senior Therapy Assistant and Therapy Assistants. Working in pre operative clinics and providing post operative therapy under the guidance of qualified therapist to patients having elective orthopaedic surgery.

    To develop their skills the successful candidates will receive training and regular teaching, they will also regularly participate in supervision and working towards a competency framework with a qualified therapist.

    This will be a static posts based at the Royal Hallamshire on the new SEOC unit.

    Main duties of the job

    JOB PURPOSE

    Provide Therapy to patients. Ensure governance standards and contribute to the operational management and modernisation of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Therapy Services.

    ROLE OF THE DEPARTMENT

    MSK Therapy Services provides Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy to patients referred to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. MSK Therapy Services is part of the MSK Directorate within the trust.

    The new service involves participating on an early and late shift pattern and a weekend working roster, for example Early shift, mid shift, and late shift.

    Flexible or part time working hours would be considered.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • GCSE Grade C /4 or equivalent in English
  • Technical qualifications to level 3 QCF3, BTEC, A Level in relevant health/healthcare subject OR evidence of continuous development through formal and/or informal training in health/healthcare equivalent to Level 3
  • Desirable

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in Maths
  • Health & Safety
  • Risk Assessment
  • First Aid
  • City & Guilds 7307 (teaching) or equivalent
  • Further Training

    Essential

  • Knowledge & skills in therapy practice relevant to speciality
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Relevant experience as an Occupational Therapy and/or Physiotherapy Assistant including successful completion of associated competences or Relevant experience as a Clinical Support Worker/Health Care Assistant.
  • Or Relevant experience as a Clinical Support Worker/Health Care Assistant
  • Desirable

  • Working in elderly/ rehabilitation/ medicine/ surgery/orthopaedic/ neurology specialities.
  • Special Skills/Aptitudes

    Essential

  • Competency in therapy practice
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
  • Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain accurate written records & statistics

  • Comprehensive understanding of occupational therapy and physiotherapy in line with the role
