About The Role


The service is being remodelled to deliver a good quality, comprehensive and efficient offering to all those who live, work and study within the Borough.

This is your opportunity to contribute to this dynamic time for the Library Service and shape the future of what libraries are to become.


Weekend working and working until 8pm is required as part of this role.


Hounslow's Library Service consists of 11 libraries as well as an archives and local studies service and also operates a specialist services teams, one serving discrete users e.g.

those who are housebound and the other working alongside schools to improve their internal library service. We have over 230,000 items available to residents excluding the specialist collections and c.345,000 annual visits.


In June 2020 Hounslow Libraries joined The Libraries Consortium this gave our members access to more than 3 million items.

Resident satisfaction with the service is high, but we are aiming to achieve much more.


Key Responsibilities

  • Offer advice and guidance to customers on the use of library materials and equipment including public-use IT and reference and stock enquiries.
  • Participate in the delivery of activities for children and adults in line with the service Events and Engagement Plan including making bookings for and promoting functions/events.
  • Take a positive role in promoting Library Services and stock and ensure the library is always well-presented and tidy, with a high standard of display and promotional materials.

Your Skills

  • Exceptional customer service delivery.
  • Ability to work calmly, efficiently and accurately under pressure and in challenging scenarios.
  • Proven ability to show initiative as will be on occasion working in a library without on-site supervision.

Professional Qualifications:


English A-C GCSE or equivalent or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of attainment through qualification or experience in a relevant discipline.


Essential for the Role
Enhanced DBS check is required for the role.
