Health Care Support Worker - Band 3 - Abbey House, Hallam Street Hospital
The role of Health Care Support Worker is a key and valued part of our in-patient services - assisting and supporting our Nursing Provision.
We are recruiting three Health Care Assistants to join our Team - Abbey Mental Health Ward.
We deliver in- patient care to male patients - we are 18-bedded ward.
Our care care is based on a holistic model - we address difficulties mental health; concerns with physical health and support with social needs;
Main duties of the job
Applicants should have previous experience as a Healthcare Support Worker, have excellentcommunication skills and will need to be able to work on your own and also as part of ateam. You will also need to be flexible as you may be working across a number of wards orareas.

Job descriptionJob responsibilities
To assist in basic care and assessment of the patient as support to, and under thesupervision of, a registered nurse/senior support staff.- To follow individualised care and therapeutic programmes for patients under theinstruction of the nursing staff/senior support staff. Supporting patients and their carers through the period of ill health, enabling recovery, promoting independence and undertaking care activities to meet individual health and well-being needs- To provide support to patients with their personal care.- To be informed and aware of the patients clinical condition and individualcircumstances to ensure the care and comfort of clients.- To promote communications and act as an advocate for patients who haveexperienced difficulty in communicating.- To contribute to the patients plan of treatment by communicating any observations of patients behaviours to the Care co-ordinator or nurse in charge during periods of duty.- To work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to promote quality work in collaboration with the patient, involving them at all times with their care.- To ensure, by attitude, approach and response, the continuation of good working relationships between staff and patients within the unit.- To support the qualified staff in the admission and discharge procedure. - - To Ensure the relevant policies in respect of patients property and valuables aremaintained. To support staff in promoting recreation/leisure amongst patients.- To contribute to the promotion of patients education and well-being.- To monitor and encourage and record patients in their consumption of food and drink.- Accompany appropriate patients of site as and when required. To undertake the relevant management of aggression training such as or MAPA.- To assist in the maintenance of a safe environment.- To participate in the observation of patients at risk.- To promote and maintain beneficial relationships between relatives/patients and carers in liaison with other appropriate agencies.- To participate in all projects and research schemes to improve the quality of the patients life.- To be aware of and comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and all other policies laid down by Black Country healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.- To attend mandatory courses/lectures/in-house training, as required.- Infection prevention & control is everybodys responsibility, it is a requirement for all Trust staff to comply with all trust infection control policies and procedures.- To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with theresponsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality service
