What is the purpose of role:

This is a key business compliance role ensuring we maintain good relations with both internal and external stake holders including the Tax authorities and minimise any potential penalties and enquiries.

You will ensure the accurate and timely submissionof indirect tax and excise returns, including Intrastats.


Who are your internal and external stakeholders, who you liaise with on a regular basis:

Internal:
Treasury team Central Finance, unit teams and Line Manager

External:
HMRC, Auditors, Customers and Suppliers

What you'll be doing will include:

  • Prepare monthly VAT returns for submission to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
  • Calculate, prepare and submit the company's Intrastats return each month.
  • Be responsible for monitoring ALSG's EMCS activity, ensuring we submit reports of receipt through EMCS no later than 5 business days after the goods are received.
  • Support the Indirect and Employment Tax manager in managing our customers IPR activity.
  • Support Indirect and Employment Tax manager with any queries or adhoc projects as applicable.
  • Assist on excise duty data collection, review, consolidation, preparation and payment of monthly duty liability.
  • Complete General Ledger VAT account Balance sheets reconciliations.
  • Investigate posting to Proforma VAT account and posting journal adjustments
  • Post VAT clearance journals.
  • Support CFO with assisting any queries as applicable

This list is not exhaustive, accountabilities may vary dependant on locality or role complexity and may include any other duties considered reasonable by the line manager.


What you'll have will include:


  • AAT qualified or working towards a recognised accountancy qualification
  • Relevant experience within a shared service environment
  • Excellent MS Excel skills
  • An ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Selfmotivated and a team player
  • Able to challenge issues and advise business
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills
  • Strong team player
  • Highly organised with a keen eye for detail
  • Knowledge of VAT (desirable)
  • SAP experience (desirable)
