Salary:
National ranging from £49,700-£55,000 and London from £53,300-£60,000

We are recruiting for an Investment Platforms Supervisor to work in the Consumer Investments Platform Team in the Investment Platform and SIPP Operator (IPSO) department in supervision.

IPSO sits within Consumer Investments Directorate.

The Directorate has a key role in the regulation and supervision of consumer investment firms with the objective of preventing consumer harm.

  • Invest with confidence, understanding the risks they are taking, and the regulatory protections provided
  • Access & identify investments that suit their circumstances and attitude to risk
  • Are protected from scams
  • Are able to get advice or support to invest, should they want it


The IPSO department has a key role in the regulation of SIPP Operators, Investment Platforms and Peer to Peer Lenders in the UK.

The Platform team within IPSO undertakes supervision of the platforms portfolio and includes the supervision of 33 firms with Assets under Administration (AuA) of c.£750bn for c.8m customers.

These firms are involved in the provision and distribution of retail investments, long-term savings, and pension and retirement income products.

What you will be doing


You will a member of a team leading on the supervision of key firms in the portfolio, taking assertive steps to ensure firms are appropriately supervised and any risk of consumer harm is mitigated.

You will be dealing directly with CEOs, Board Members and key individuals at firms.

Alongside the active management of high-risk reactive casework, you will be involved in proactive thematic analysis of the most significant areas of potential harm in the UK platform market.

This will involve drafting papers and presentations for internal discussion alongside regular written and face-to-face engagement with firms in the portfolio.

Larger scale thematic work will involve aspects of project management to ensure important work is delivered to challenging deadlines.

As work in the portfolio is increasing data led, you will be regularly analysing information from a variety of sources to identify outliers and anomalies that could indicate customer harm, and acting to prevent it.


The team supervises both advised and direct-to-consumer platforms, including new joiners including disrupters to the sector and you will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across supervision and the rest of the FCA when needed.

Alongside your peers you will be responsible for identifying areas where we need to improve and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

The skills and experience you will have

  • Minimum_
  • Direct experience working in the UK retail investment market with regular interaction with investment platforms services
  • Experience of working in a Supervisory capacity, or in a Risk Management role
  • Essential_
  • Familiarity with the basic operational processes of an investment platform
  • A solid understanding of UK corporate structure and the responsibilities of boards and senior executives
  • Negotiation skills and a preparedness to deliver firm messages to individuals in senior positions at supervised firms and groups
