    Job summary

    Are you interested in Respiratory Physiotherapy? This exciting rotational opportunity is based within the specialist respiratory physiotherapy teams within University Hospitals Birmingham. This will initially be a 12 month Post at GHH working on the NIV, Surgical and Intensive Care Wards. Respiratory rotations include acute Non-Invasive Ventilation and Respiratory Support Units, regional Cystic Fibrosis centre, Home Mechanical Ventilation service including Paediatric Transition and Neuromuscular service, the Birmingham Regional Severe Asthma Service, Critical Care and Surgery.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative physiotherapist. You will need good clinical skills and experience; excellent team working and time management skills. You will work alongside specialist physiotherapists, providing respiratory care and rehabilitation to patients whilst working closely with the multi-professional team. You will have the opportunity to supervise Physiotherapy students, junior Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers. Research and CPD opportunities are encouraged.

    This rotational role is based at Birmingham Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals, however, as the Trust is a multi-site organisation you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites and may need to change your normal place of work, either temporarily or on a permanent basis as a result of development or reorganisation of Trust services.

    Main duties of the job

    To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

    To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.

    To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

    To assist with the supervision,

    Applicants will be required to participate in the departmental respiratory overnight on-call system and 7 day working rota within the Respiratory Therapy teams. education and co-ordination of physiotherapy assistants, physiotherapy technical instructors and junior physiotherapists.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • *Diploma / degree in Physiotherapy
  • *Registered with Health Professions Council
  • *A levels or equivalent qualification
  • *Good standard of general education including GCSE maths and English grade C and above.
  • *Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality.
  • Desirable

  • *Member of the ACPRC/ MTS/BTS
  • *Attendance at Clinical Educators course
  • Experience

    Essential

  • *Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients within this speciality / within the NHS with experience of elderly and frail elderly, neurological and musculo-skeletal conditions.
  • *Experience of working on a physiotherapy on-call service.
  • *Supervision of student physiotherapists and assistants.
  • *An ability to analyse clinical and non-clinical complex facts and situations, which require the interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
  • *An ability to plan, organise, formulate and adjust complex plans.
  • *An ability to supervise and delegate work to physiotherapists, assistants and students.
  • Desirable

  • *It is desirable that the candidate will have had some experience within Respiratory Physiotherapy / NIV.
  • *It is desirable that the candidate has some experience in and around critical care environment.

  • *An ability to work as team leader, as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • *An ability to motivate and develop the team.
  • *Able to contribute to the out of hours on-call Respiratory Service.
  • Desirable

  • *Demonstrate an interest in promoting physiotherapy to health professionals and other agencies.
