  • This local operations post will sit in Yorkshire Area and deliver nationally across the industrial clusters, providing engagement leadership on energy and decarbonisation developments across England. The post will ensure that the Environment Agency (EA) is seen as an enabler of these key developments and that we have a consistent and joined up approach.

The post holder will:

  • Interact widely, developing and maintaining effective relationships with key internal stakeholders (Areas, Environment and Business, National Permitting Service, Legal, Comms) to provide sound technical materials relevant to the cluster needs and to protect and enhance our reputation.
  • Provide specialist expertise and guidance across the organisation, and wider, on energy and decarbonisation issues, to ensure the effective communication of the EA's position to partners, stakeholders and the public.
  • Devise and manage proactive and reactive communications including media copy, advise on responses to Requests For Information, lines to take and briefings for senior managers and areas.
  • Work across energy and decarbonisation clusters developing and shaping our engagement approach and supporting/managing where required.
  • Promote the organisations net zero approach whilst promoting and explaining our role in protecting the environment
  • Liaise with partner agencies to develop and establish effective relationships and build engagement materials
The base location of the successful applicant is flexible. Some travel may be required so a full UK driving licence would be useful.

As responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, you will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.


  • The team
  • The post will report to the Installations North & East team in Yorkshire and will work nationally supporting Local Operations as decarbonisation developments go through permitting and development and move into operation.

Engagement will be required with a range of energy and decarbonisation specialists, regulatory teams and Communications and Engagement Teams across Area and National teams as required and depending on potential issues on permitting and environmental constraints.


  • Experience/skills required
  • You are an enthusiastic and selfmotivated individual with: Excellent communication skills and a comprehensive track record of producing briefing notes, responses to Requests for Information, and engagement with the public The ability to plan, deliver and evaluate effective stakeholder engagement for a project, plan or site Decision making skills who focusses on the right outcomes and also the best ways to achieve those outcomes through innovation / creative thinking
  • A proven track record of successfully resolving complex issues through influencing, negotiation and working with others The ability to work unsupervised and to take the lead on issues and who is a team player with a wide network The ability to inspire and motivate others in a complex and challenging work area The ability to build and maintain effective networks to enable you to deliver better outcomes Good knowledge of the energy and decarbonisation sector
