Summary:

An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant to support our work in the low carbon and renewable energy sectors.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with engineers and commercial developers to develop sustainable projects in the waste, biomass, and renewables sectors.


As a Consultant within a diverse team, you will play a crucial role supporting the work of the team to deliver for our internal and external clients.

You will work on cutting-edge projects in the renewable energy sector and power sector, contributing to the growth and advancement of Cobalt Energy.

The business is specifically focussed on waste-fuelled Thermal Renewables, Anaerobic Digestion, Carbon Capture Use and Sequestration (CCUS), Waste to Chemical, and Energy Storage in the UK.

Cobalt Energy consults, engineers, constructs, and operates - providing solutions in all parts of the project life cycle.

Its core strength is providing practical solutions to ensure projects are developed efficiently to allow them to move from concept to operation.


The Consulting and Innovation team is focussed on delivering expert support to all aspects of a project for our business and to external clients.


The growing workload has presented an opportunity to recruit a Consultant into the team, to learn the business and provide support to the project managers and senior engineers in the business.


Skills & Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, geology, engineering, renewable energy, or a related field
  • Knowledge of the waste and biomass industries
  • Understanding of relevant industry standards
  • Excellent problemsolving, analytical, and practical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve technical issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fastpaced environment
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to waste treatment and energy generation systems
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies, such as Energy from Waste, CCUS, and energy storage & generation systems

Principal responsibilities:


  • Provision of technical and project support to clients in support of project activities
  • Participate in feasibility studies, technical assessments, and economic analyses
  • Assist in the review and preparation of Environmental Permits, Planning Applications and other technical studies
  • Assist in the Due Diligence process for Energy and Waste projects
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including discipline engineers, project managers, and technicians
  • Support project activities, including site visits, data analysis, and preparation of technical reports and proposals
  • Stay up to date with developments in the sector and any changes in legislation
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as utilities, regulatory bodies, and technology suppliers, to facilitate successful project execution and maintain industry relationships

Role details:


  • Based remotely (at home) with UK projectbased assignment work as required
  • Potentially frequent periods of travel, project and site work
  • Occasional overseas travel for meetings, site visits and project work
  • Experience of working in multinational environments would be an advantage but not essential
  • Excellent personal and interpersonal skills such as organisation, communication and attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to site facilities and offices across the UK
