    Job overview

    The role of the Specialist Health Visitor Perinatal and Infant Mental Health role is to work in collaboration and assist in leading and developing the Perinatal and Infant Mental Health services within the 0- universal offer in Derby City.

    They will assist in the delivery and implementation of evidence based training, such as the New-born Observation toolkit (Brazelton). To facilitate workshops to support staff through this process. To complete clinical Audits to provide assurance of a competent confident workforce.

    The Specialist Health Visitor will ensure, jointly with other services, the creation of multidisciplinary pathways, policies and procedures to address the mental health needs of women, infants in the perinatal period and their families.

    The Specialist Health Visitor will provide relevant clinical supervision, training and support to the universal children's services in relation to Perinatal and Infant Mental Health. The emphasis will be on early intervention, prevention of mental health difficulties, and the promotion of positive relationships between parents and their infants.

    Provide leadership and embed up to date research and evidence based practice and ensure effective dissemination to all Public health nursing staff to ensure the efficient delivery of the Healthy Child Programme.

    This post will be considered on a secondment basis- Please note that you must have prior approval from your current line manager before applying for a secondment post.

    Main duties of the job

  • Provide a link between health visitors, midwives, GPs, Adult and Child Mental Health
  • Provide clinical supervision to staff where there are concerns about perinatal and/or infant mental health
  • Implement Brazelton training to staff and offer support workshops at regular intervals to support its implementation into practice Services and other agencies in relation to families where there challenges to the parent infant relationship and where there are significant mental health issues.
  • Develop comprehensive care pathways for women and families affected by mild, moderate and severe maternal mental health problems
  • To work collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop joint pathways.
  • The post holder will prioritise, organise and provide clinical leadership for work within the Health Visiting Service, ensuring that available resources are focussed on service need.
  • The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical input to the teams, ensuring the service delivers evidence based practice to the highest possible standard.
  • To work closely with the 0- management team, acute services and other external agencies in developing the service and to improve partnership working and joint service provision in accordance with the local and national children's policy agenda.

  • Provide and lead on the development of perinatal and infant mental health services within Derby City to Health Visiting/ School Nursing Teams which will include pre and post registration students.
  • Provide guidance and support to members of staff through clinical supervision where it has been highlighted there are concerns with perinatal/ infant mental health.
  • Liaise with other services to improve perinatal service provision for these families and promote integration of services.
