What is the role?

As an assistant plant operator, you have responsibility for monitoring and operating a safe, environmentally compliant and efficient, auxiliary system, boilers and steam turbine generator operation.


This role is worked on a rotating shift pattern and overtime or emergency call-out is a requirement to meet operational demands.


What you will be doing?
Please see below a brief overview of the role and the responsibilities

  • Operating boilers and auxiliary plant equipment locally throughout the plant.
  • Carry out routine plant inspections and adjustments / operations as required and collecting and recording plant data.
  • To assist with the handson operation of the plant during steady state, start up, shutdown and emergency situations as directed by the Plant Operator and Shift Team Leader.
  • Performs physical duties associated with maintaining boilers and various equipment within the plant.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records of daily operational activities.
  • Assists shift team leader in root cause analysis investigations following plant disturbance or environmental release.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and review following plant disturbance.
  • Creates work requests and reports defects through the Computerised Maintenance Management
System (CMMS).

  • Works collaboratively with all members of enfinium team and contractors to ensure the highest levels of H&S are maintained at all times.
  • Monitor stocks and take receipt of consumables / collection of residues.
  • Operate mobile plant as required, including Waste & Ash cranes.
  • Undertakes any other assigned duties as directed.
Qualifications & Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the role of Assistant Plant Operator:

  • Experience of working within Energy from Waste or another similar environment is desirable
  • Technically competent to perform basic first line maintenance tasks at the facility following agreement from Shift Team Leader. o Equipment inspections. o Lubricating equipment as required. o Component exchange as required o Unblocking of systems required for continuous & compliant operation of the facility.
  • Knowledge and skills to operate power plant auxiliary equipment, such as air compressors and dryers, hydraulic power units, forced draft fans, pumps, spray dryer and absorbers.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation of a steam generating power plant.
  • The ability to undertake training that is relevant to the post.
