Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres and supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development.
The overall Lab Operations team, where this role is situated in, is underpinned by four key values, Safety, Respect, Reliability and Team Work which we would expect the appointed individual to adhere to whilst carrying out their duties.
Role Details:
We are currently seeking a Laboratory Aide for our fast-paced Laboratory Support Services Team at the Beatson Institute which is part of the Laboratory Operations Group.
The individual must have a strong teamwork ethic, be able to prioritise tasks, adapt to changes in the workload demands at short notice and be able to communicate to team and management.
Responsibilities of this role will include the provision of clean glassware, sterile solutions, support of laboratory equipment, cleaning of lab areas, waste collection and replenishment of laboratory consumables.
A scientific background is not essential for this role, and we would actively encourage those who have experience in a support-based role to apply.
The position may also be suitable for a school leaver looking for a support role in laboratory operations in a cancer research environment.
Essential Experience/Qualities:
- Working as part of a large team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritise tasks to strict deadlines.
- Attention to detail to ensure the service runs to a high standard.
- Ability to work independently and plan work on a day to day basis.
- Be able to follow and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Willingness to undergo additional training key to the role.
- Experience or awareness of the health & safety involved working in a laboratory based environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft word, outlook and excel.
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous experience working in a laboratorysupport role.
- Manual handling experience.
