Job overview:

We have an exciting opportunity within the Point of Care Testing Service.


The Point of Care Testing Technical lead will be responsible for coordinating and delivering a high quality PoCT service across the NCA and the integrated community services.

Your Base site will be Salford.

Although you will be expected to work at and across all NCA sites and WWL NHS Trust, initially your main focus will be to support services at Salford and Wigan.

To be responsible for the training of staff in the use of PoCT equipment.

To provide technical expertise to the PoCT team.


Main duties of the job:

To be responsible for the training of staff in the use of PoCT equipment.

To provide technical expertise to the PoCT team.

To communicate with staff on the wards to comply with quality standards of the Point of Care testing equipment.

To develop excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders,

To maintain the Quality Management System for PoCT

To lead in the implementation of new equipment across the Trust (and wider community if applicable).

Person specification:


Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience:


Essential criteria:


  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience of developing practice and problem solving skills
  • Experience of training and developing others
  • Evidence of participation in projects and writing SOPs and guidelines
  • Experience of Accreditation process
  • Experience of working in a Pathology discipline at a specialist level (at least 3 years)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Well developed computer skills
  • Understanding of Point of Care issues including current guidelines and regulations
  • Knowledge of Point of Care devices
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and that of a team
  • Ability to work in demanding circumstances and to meet deadlines

Desirable criteria:


  • Verification of method experience
  • Formal IT Qualification

Registration and qualifications:


Essential criteria:


  • HCPC registration
  • Relevant MSc, or Post Grad, or Level 7, or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of CPD
