Public Protection have an exciting opportunity at the heart of the trading standards and licensing enforcement service.

The team is responsible for enforcing thousands of laws aimed at ensuring fair and safe trading for businesses and consumers and that businesses are complying with their licensing conditions.


Providing excellent customer service will be very important to you, ensuring everyone you deal with is treated with courtesy and respect.

There will be lots of technical language and jargon to contend with.

You will find experience of using different information databases advantageous as you will be using many different ones on a daily basis.

You will also be apt at writing detailed reports based on fact, and maintaining accurate records.


As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.

Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process.

Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
