Job description:

Finance Business Partners provide expert advice to support the FCDO in delivering its objectives and outcomes.

This includes providing clear advice on spend decisions, detailed analysis, strategic insight and solutions to senior stakeholders and the business to support effective planning and delivery.


The business areas could range from Information and Digital who provide a worldwide network delivering our diplomatic, development and consular outcomes with work ranging from market leading technological change to cyber security; to Estates and Security whose responsibility ranges from managing and investing in the global estate to functions that ensure the security of FCDO staff and its estate across the world.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert financial advice and attend leadership groups to advise and influence the business and senior stakeholders on spend decisions and performance improvement.
  • Take responsibility for all financial information provided to the business including performance reports, analysis and recommendations to senior management to facilitate effective decision making.
  • Engage early in pipeline reviews and policy development, whilst providing the investment appraisal of business cases.
  • Work closely with senior commercial colleagues and representing Finance on boards to shape decision making and supporting on financial aspects of the programme's delivery cycle.
  • Identify and communicate potential opportunities and risks to enable leadership to make decisions around investments and continuous improvements.
  • Support and inform scenariobased forecasts, considering risks, probability and contingency planning and support portfolio management over multiple financial years.
  • Support the Directorate on strategic finance exercises, for example, business planning, resource allocation and workforce planning.
  • Lead on the internal control environment to mitigate risks, ensuring value for money on decision making and that financial control processes are followed.
  • Be responsible for managing and developing colleagues to deliver operational finance duties and to support strengthened financial management.

Person specification:


Minimum Criteria

  • Qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent;
OR

  • Part Qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent, with financial experience over an extended period of time.
(Part Qualified is defined as completion of:
ACCA Applied Skills Level; CIMA Management Level Case Study; CIPFA Professional Diploma; ICAEW Professional Level.)

  • Significant experience in a senior finance role
  • Proven ability to form strong and trusting relationships with colleagues and clients,
  • Adaptable and able to achieve influence at senior level
  • Ability to quickly develop a deep understanding of the business, its strategy and performance drivers.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present finance simply to nonfinance teams and senior leaders.
  • Line management experience.

Qualifications:


  • Qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent.
OR

  • Part Qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent, with financial experience over an extended period of time.
