    Deputy Chief Economist (Development)

    Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

    Location: FCDO UK HQ – London or East Kilbride

    Salary: This is a SCS Pay Band 1 role. The successful candidate will be paid a salary of circa £100,000 per annum. See Candidate Briefing Pack for serving civil servant conditions

    The role of Deputy Chief Economist (Development) for the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) will play a pivotal role in driving forward the UK's commitment to tackle global poverty and increase the impact of its development interventions.

    As the lead Development Economist in FCDO you will work to ensure Ministers and senior officials are equipped with the required economic and evaluative evidence across a wide range of UK's development policy and programming priorities. You will have a broad mandate covering, economic development, international macro-economic implications for development and growth, evaluation of development interventions, and reviewing major Business Cases through effective leadership of our Quality Assurance Unit.

    Key to success will be your ability to you lead and inspire a talented team of economists and evaluation experts who work closely with FCDO geographic and thematic Directorates, supporting them to ensure decisions reflect the best evidence and analysis available. You will be able to demonstrate significant relationship management skills engaging effectively with economic stakeholders across FCDO's overseas network, counterparts in international agencies and foreign governments and academia. Here you will be seen as a provider of quality and credible analysis, independent challenge, and thought leadership on issues ranging from macro risks to the development of fragile states to maximising the effectiveness and Value for Money of UK aid.
