Job summary:

Are you are an experienced Band 5 or an established Band 6 looking to increase your clinical dietetic skills in a range of different specialities? If so, our Rotational Band 6 Dietitian post at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals, as part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is the job for you


This post allows you to enhance your dietetic skills widely rather than in one particular clinical area, broadening your options for future career progression.


The rotations available include:

  • Gastroenterology & Nutrition Support team who support a number of multidisciplinary teams including; critical care, parenteral nutrition rounds, gastroenterology, general and upper GI surgery.
  • Medical Surgical team which covers a wide range of specialities including: elective surgery, Noncancerous ENT diagnoses, trauma & orthopaedics
  • Renal team who provide dietetic care to renal inpatients and outpatients with Acute Kidney Injury and all forms of Chronic Kidney Disease including predialysis and those on haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.


Across these areas you will receive multiple learning and development opportunities to strengthen your clinical, management, leadership and service development skills.

You would be joining a large, supportive department who work holistically with our medical, nursing and therapy colleagues.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:
Post qualification experience in an acute NHS hospital setting with a good knowledge of nutrition support is essential.


The day to day tasks will differ dependent on which rotation you are in, however all areas will require applicants to have experience of close multi-professional working and must demonstrate excellent communication skills and time management capabilities.


An integral part of the role will involve assisting with supervision of Band 5s, support workers and students and providing opportunity to lead on audits/QI projects to improve patient care.

Qualifications:


Essential:


  • Degree in dietetics or equivalent. (E)
  • Current State Registration with HCPC. (E)

Experience:


Essential:


  • Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the (E)
post holder to manage a caseload of patients with

complex needs in this speciality. This would usually

be approximately 12 months.


  • Demonstration of clinical experience of working with (E) patients within speciality.
  • Ability to work as part of multidisciplinary team and (E)
Dietetic team.

Knowledge


  • Understanding of audit, clinical effectiveness and
its importance in the provision of a quality service. (E)


  • Awareness of local needs, eg; ethnic minority and
low income groups. (E)


  • Insight into own CPD and appropriate strategies for addressing them. (E)
