Description
Ward 4 is a 20 bedded Paediatric Oncology/Haematology Ward and is part of The Great North Children's Hospital.

It is a busy, but friendly faced Department, consisting of 20 In-Patient beds caring for ages 0-19 years of age.

We require a part-time Ward Clerk to work 3 shifts over set days of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week.

It can be a challenging environment to work in, but also very rewarding when able to help patients and families through a difficult journey.

Administrative roles within the Department require varying skills.

The role is stationed at the entry to the Ward, so it is essential that the post holder has a friendly approach and is able to make people feel welcomed as they enter the Ward.

The role involves checking patients in and out of the Ward for admissions and discharges,, rearranging and scheduling appointments, arranging transport, liaising with Ambulance Control, troubleshooting any issues for patients/families, parking queries and booking interpreters for patient consultations to name a few.

  • Interview Date 29/06/202 22.5 hours per week over 3 days per week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

The admin role is essential to the day to day running of the Ward and provides a vital service for patients and families.

Building up a rapport with patients and families is very rewarding and being able to help provide the best possible care together as a team, is one of the reasons staff often stay working within the Department for long periods time.

The role requires the post holder to carry out various tasks such as admitting, discharging and transferring of patients on e-record.

This needs to be done in a timely fashion because, if there are delays in the service it can impact the care we provide for patients and families.

The role requires effective communication with all patients, families, Health Professionals and staff within the Hospital setting, but also liaising with outside agencies, such as Ambulance Control, Patient Transport and Interpreting Services.

The role involves answering the phones to patients, families and anyone requiring information or advice from the service.

Managing the patient bed board, coding patient encounters, booking patient appointments and supporting Nursing and Medical staff with varying tasks is an essential part of the role.

The post holder would be the person who meets and greets anyone entering the Department, so it is essential they are friendly and approachable.
