I am working with Bedford High School to find them a permanent Finance Manager.

You will drive the financial strategy of the school and be responsible for all health and safety.


This role would suit a switched-on Finance Manager with the ability to learn the Health and Safety element of the role.

  • Salary is £48,587 £52,21 37 hours a week 08:0016:00, Monday to Friday

Duties of the Finance Manager

  • Provide leadership of Bedford High Schools Finance and Accounting strategy.
  • Work as an integral member of the SLT and advise in relation to all financial matters affecting the school and contribute to the effective strategic planning, delivery, and evaluation of the school.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the whole school budget providing regular management reports to budget holders, Headteacher and Governors.
  • Advise the Senior Leadership Team and Governors on the most efficient use of resources.
  • Effective analysis, monitoring and evaluation of school functions.
  • Jointly lead on the marketing strategy for the school and development of income generation.
  • Assist with the development of policies to improve support functions across the school.
  • Have responsibility for Health and Safety for the school.
  • Have responsibility for the development of the school premises.
  • Oversee the strategic management and development of the school's ICT systems and infrastructure.
  • Ensure the school financial systems, policies & procedures are compliant and support growth.
  • Lead and develop the finance team.
  • Ensure budgeting processes are managed, monitored, and reviewed with appropriate reports presented to the Governing Body.
  • Actively committing to making the school a safe and stimulating environment for staff, pupils, and visitors.
  • Ensure that necessary risk assessment procedures are in place and that staff with designated responsibility for risk assessment are trained in the identification of hazards and associated risks.
  • Support the Headteacher in the implementation of disaster recovery and emergency action
  • Act as project manager for all premises related projects.
  • Assist in the strategic planning for future development of the school buildings, its resources and service to the community served. To deal with all outside contractors, plan works schedules and supervise their work where appropriate.

The Finance Manager Must Have

  • Significant experience in finance roles at a senior level
  • Proven experience of managing a team of staff
  • Degree in Business or Finance or equivalent recognised qualification
  • Willingness to work towards Level 5 Diploma for School Business Leaders
  • A good working knowledge of GDPR and procedures
  • Detailed knowledge of financial regulations and codes of practice
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills
  • Adaptable and diplomatic approach to differing solutions
  • Willingness to be flexible to work outside the normal working pattern when required
  • Ability to use initiative to respond to and resolve a range of longterm problems
  • Ability to organise, lead and motivate a team of staff over several areas of work
  • Professional appearance and conduct
  • A committed lifelong learner willing to undertake further training to suit the needs of the role
  • Flexibility working outside of normal school hours will be required

  • Experience of working in a school or similar environment
  • Level 5 Diploma for School Business Leaders (DSBM)
  • Detailed knowledge of financial regulations and codes of practice
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to Safeguarding within a school environment
