Reed in Colchester are currently recruiting for an Editorial/Publishing Assistant for a well renowned client of ours based in Colchester.


This is a 12 month contract office-based role you will be responsible for all operational aspects of several of the clients journals and/or book series, including the editorial and peer review process, administration and governance, marketing, and impact.


Role and Responsibilities:


  • Build strong working relationships with all members of the editorial team, publisher, staff members and other stakeholders to support the smooth running and success of the publication
  • Ensure editors are following agreed processes and adhering to related policies as set by the business and the publisher, flagging any issues or concerns as soon as they arise
  • Act as first point of contact between the editors, publisher, ensuring all financial payments are made and received correctly and on time; all parties are kept informed and up to date; all training requirements are met and all queries resolved promptly
  • Work closely with the publisher and editors to ensure all contractual and other agreed requirements, policies and procedures for the publication are met
  • Oversight/coordination of the peer review process from submission, through agreed peer review process, to rejection/acceptance and delivery to the publisher
  • Monitor the contract dates for the publisher, flagging when renegotiation or review is due
  • Regularly review process, workflow and practices against other journals and industry best practice to identify weaknesses and areas for improvement, collaborating with others to implement change
  • Monitor the term dates of the editorial team and when required coordinate midpoint reviews and the search and selection, handover, and induction processes as per agreed timelines and procedures for new editors.

  • Working with the data analyst oversee the production of the formal annual report, coordinating contributions by the editorial team and ensuring delivery by agreed deadlines
  • Working with the data analyst, contribute to the production of all internal reporting to the PSC annually as part of the formal review and throughout the year as and when required
  • Coordinate the scheduling and delivery of editorial and other meetings throughout the year as and when required; and support the organisation of annual reporting meetings and Publications Retreat
  • Provide oversight of and proactively coordinate with Marketing staff and others on all social media and marketing campaigns monitoring success and impact against agreed KPIs
  • Coordinate with Loop staff to identify newsworthy articles to develop into Blog pieces
  • Working with others, coordinate the publications' presence at events in order to support the profile and impact.
