The Role

Sheffield Forgemasters is an iconic heavy engineering company which is capable of producing the largest and most technically challenging cast and forged steel components in the world from its manufacturing facilities in Sheffield.

In 2021 the business was acquired by the UK Ministry of Defence which secured its role as a critical supplier to the next generation of UK defence programmes, and is currently embarking upon a substantial recapitalisation project to modernise its plant and equipment over the next 10 years.

Sheffield Forgemasters is currently looking for a Permit to Work Authoriser working within our Site Services Department.

The Permit Authoriser is the central figure in the day-to-day management of the permit system within their area of responsibility and for authorising all work requiring a permit to work.

This individual has overall responsibility to the Operations Manager/Director for the safe control of work activities in accordance with the company policy.

This role will involve the day to day implementation of our Permit to Work procedure for all staff and contractors working within the area of responsibility to include management of isolations and coordination of all work being undertaken on a day-to-day basis.

The role will be the active link between the work organisers, site contacts, engineering managers and production and project managers that ensures all work is executed safely and with limited impact to our production operation.

The role will be responsible for ensuring that all permitted work is properly planned and scheduled in advance of the permit being issued as well as reacting to emergent work, dynamic worksite/task changes and breakdowns to help ensure we safely control all our simultaneous permitted work activities.

Permit to Work trained
Capable of developing information systems i.e. spread sheet
In depth knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace and improvements made in support of H&S
Permit to work knowledge / experience
In depth knowledge of the heavy engineering industry, preferably Steel Industry

Days/Hours of Work:

South Machine Shop:
Monday - Friday 07:4- 16:00

Work Rolls:
Monday - Friday 07:4- 16:15

Site Services:
Monday - Friday 06:00 - 14:15

Projects:
Monday - Friday flexible hours
