If so, we're looking for a Portfolio Business Support Officer to carry out a range of portfolio activities including performance management, risk management, recruitment, governance and information management.


Job description:


Working in the Portfolio Management Office, the post holder will play an essential part in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Office of Government Property.

This will include providing business support over a range of portfolio activities including:
recruitment, risk management, performance management, business planning, governance and information management.

You will also be responsible for monitoring overall compliance with the various Cabinet Office business rules, and continually improving their delivery.


You will work closely with leaders in the Chief Operating Officer (COO Team), and staff from right across the unit, to ensure that OGP operates as a high performing organisation in delivering its benefits and outcomes.

The role would suit someone with experience in providing business support, either in a programme/portfolio environment or a "business as usual" environment.

It would also support someone with experience in continually improving delivery.


You will work closely with colleagues from all over OGP and the wider Cabinet Office, and will need to be effective at building strong relationships to influence engagement and compliance with business processes.

You will be providing critical back office support to others in OGP, so your desire to offer a first class customer service will shine through.

You will be highly organised, and used to juggling/meeting multiple often very tight deadlines.

This will involve not only planning your own work, but also understanding the demands of other people who you will need to work with.

You will be comfortable working with large data sets, and have attention to detail.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Maintaining the OGP top tier risk register, ensuring all risks are continually managed and mitigated.
  • Maintaining business continuity management plan documents, ensuring the unit is able to continue to operate business critical activities.
  • Tracking and ensuring completion of the wide range of commissions that come into the business unit.
  • Provide oversight of performance of OGP in delivering its priorities and benefits, including business plan delivery. Ensure the smooth running of the monthly and quarterly OGP performance management process, including producing and updating performance dashboards and trackers.
  • Manage a number of staff networks (recruitment, finance), supporting building capability in leads and sharing of good practice.
  • Leading on recruitment activity across the unit including publishing job adverts, arranging interviews, inputting sift scores and onboarding. This includes managing the induction process for new starters and securing equipment, arranging induction meetings etc.
  • Managing the offboarding process for leavers including ensuring all equipment is returned and arranging exit interviews with the Head of Workforce or HR as appropriate.
  • Operate and manage the business unit reward and recognition approach, including in year bonus and annual staff awards.
  • Support staff engagement events, leading on specific activities such as away days and staff surveys.
  • Support the business unit in maintaining compliance with knowledge and information management.
  • Help with the efficient and effective running of OGP governance meetings.
