The Hive is a partnership between the University of Worcester and Worcestershire County Council.

This is a demanding but exciting role in the UK's first joint public and academic library, working as part of a team under the guidance of the Hive Library Services Manager and within the framework of the Hive Values to make a continuing success of the wide range of services.


Team Leaders Relief role is designed to cover the responsibilities of the Duty Team Leader providing cover for the substantive Team Leaders during periods of annual leave and sickness.

These duties include (but are not limited to) the supervision of Hive Library Customer Advisors while on shift, the escalate any concerns to the Library Manager, the point of escalation for concerns for customers who are using the building, responsibility for the smooth delivery of services.

The people covering these shifts need to work closely with team members and other colleagues employed by the County Council and the University in the Hive and beyond.


At evenings and weekends, they are likely to be the senior member of staff within the Hive, liaising with the Facilities Management team on duty.

Duty Team Leaders will deal with any escalated customer problems and facilitate a smooth transition between shifts.

They need to be able to build good working relationships with staff, helping motivate them to work together as a team, and to communicate effectively with the very diverse range of customers.

A passion for excellent customer service is therefore essential. This is an opportunity to develop leadership skills and understanding of the Hive from a different perspective.

Shifts will be released on a business need basis and will be offered to the pool on a first come first service basis.


From 1 August 2023, the salary range for this role will increase to £22,681 - £24,533, with the opportunity to progress to £25,742.
